Working with local teachers to build Zero Waste schools

Project Summary

The Eco Smart Energy project aims to reduce electricity and water wastage in SMK Taman Melawati. The project includes the implementation of energy-efficient technology and rainwater harvesting to increase awareness and consumption of renewable energy at the premises and reduce water wastage.

Project Impact

Throughout their project timeline, SMKTM installed an LED Ecosystem at two blocks, a rainwater harvesting system, and a 5Rs campaign. By May 2024, 180 LED lights were installed and even photocells were also installed on spotlights around the school. In the same month, a 1,200-litre tank was installed. The water collected was used to water two gardens via a timed sprinkler system.

  • Reduce electricity consumption through implementing energy-efficient technologies such as an LED lighting system and photocells.
    • Mengurangkan penggunaan elektrik melalui pelaksanaan teknologi cekap tenaga seperti sistem pencahayaan LED dan fotosel.

  • Enhance water conservation and promote efficient water usage by building a Rainwater Harvesting System.

  • Create a model educational environment that aligns with SDG 4.7 and instils a sense of environmental responsibility among students.
