The Green Wira Programme which empowers local teachers with zero waste knowledge kicks off Cohort 2 by opening up for nationwide applications.
SELANGOR (06/02/2025) – Applications are open for Zero Waste Malaysia’s (ZWM) educate-the-educator initiative – the Green Wira Programme (GWP) Cohort 2.0- in collaboration with Yayasan Bursa Malaysia, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and PwC Malaysia. Following the successful pilot in 2024 which empowered 50 Malaysian educators, built 3 Zero Waste School projects and won an international award, Cohort 2.0 which is endorsed by the Ministry of Education Malaysia (KPM), is targeting 300 Malaysian teachers nationwide. Applications for teachers to join the programme are open until the 31st of March 2025.
The GWP consists of an online educational course which can be done at educators’ own pace, the opportunity to join physical workshops, a chance to receive up to RM30,000 in project seed funding and implementation support to run zero waste projects at respective schools. Unlike the Pilot Cohort which was only open to educators in the Klang Valley, Cohort 2 is open to primary and secondary school teachers all across Malaysia.
Malaysian educators are encouraged to take part in this opportunity for professional career development and an opportunity to spotlight the schools they represent. Educators from our pilot cohort have received numerous recognitions following their successful graduation including media mentions, interviews and awards. Government school educators on the programme are also entitled to claim SPLKPM points. “GWP makes ZERO to HERO. It’s a very powerful programme with a fun learning process. I learnt lots of new knowledge about making my school ZERO waste from GWP and I’m proud to be Green Wira (HERO) teacher.” says Cikgu Lee Kin Wai who spearheaded the Snacky Box, a reusable canteen containers project, at SJKC Serdang Baru 2 in GWP’s pilot cohort.

Registrations are now open for primary and secondary school teachers including Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK), Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (SJKC/SJKT), Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK/SMJK), Private, and International Schools. To sign up for the GWP, educators are required to fill in this form ( https://bit.ly/gwp2register ) and attach a Letter of Support from their headmaster.
