CLASSROOMS TO CHANGEMAKERS: RETURN OF THE GREEN WIRA SHOWCASE & THREE NEW ZERO WASTE SCHOOLS

A nationwide movement led by Zero Waste Malaysia culminates in a one-day Green Wira Showcase, honouring local teachers championing Zero Waste in schools.

SELANGOR (13/11/2025) Just this year, news broke that our landfills will reach capacity by 2041, nine years ahead of the initial 2050 prediction1. This concerning figure highlights the need to reduce waste faster than ever before, and Zero Waste Malaysia aims to champion this in the education sector. With over 10,000 schools in Malaysia2, the Green Wira Programme targets local teachers and empowers them to build lasting zero-waste projects. This December, we bring you a week-long exhibition and Green Wira Showcase on 6th December 2025, featuring the teachers behind these projects, education-themed local vendors, workshops and more.

Over the past 12 months, Zero Waste Malaysia (ZWM) has been running its second cohort of the Green Wira Programme (GWP). GWP is an education programme that started in 2023 and, in total, has empowered 304 Malaysian educators from 221 schools nationwide through structured online modules, expert-led webinars, physical workshops, and customised coaching.

From the second cohort alone, we have impacted an estimated 150,000 students and staff. Chosen seed-funded schools in Cohort 2.0 launched zero-waste school projects, including a Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) at SJK (C) Pui Ying and SMK (P) Pudu, and an Organic Food Waste Management system at SMK Bandar Damai Perdana, integrating Black Soldier Fly Larvae, chickens, and aquaponics.

With support from Yayasan Bursa Malaysia, Axiata Foundation, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and PwC Malaysia, GWP 2.0 is thrilled to share its impact with the wider public. The programme has also received endorsement from the Ministry of Education (KPM) and 13 State Education Departments (JPN).

We invite you to join us on 6th December 2025 (Saturday) from 10 AM to 5 PM at PARC, Subang, to celebrate the work of these incredible teachers.

The one-day showcase will feature the return of our Green Wira Exhibition – comprising opinion boards, a gamified photo wall, information about Green Wira Educators past and present, and more! In addition, the Showcase brings you low-waste themed workshops suitable for the whole family; ZWM’s classic silk screen, which encourages low-waste merchandise; and the recently launched #jomrepair Workshop, inviting the public to bring in broken electrical appliances for community repair. Seed-funded teachers from the programme will also be manning booths to share their projects and highlight the many ways their students and school communities have been impacted.

The Green Wira Exhibition will also be at PARC for a week from 29th November 2025 (Friday) until the Green Wira Showcase day on 6th December 2025.
