NORMALISING ZERO WASTE, ONE STEP AT A TIME
A celebration without the waste, aimed at normalising sustainable living in Malaysia.
SELANGOR (12/09/2022) – How do you normalise sustainable living and change the minds of 33 million people in Malaysia? This year’s October is extra special as ZWM aims to normalise zero waste living through two flagship events – ZWM’s 3rd Zero Waste Festival named Under the Stars (1st October 2022), followed by a comeback of the 30 Day Zero Waste Challenge (1st October 2022 – 30th October 2022).

“Under the Stars” Zero Waste Festival –
Picture a lakeside picnic, over 30 vendors, various workshops and a lively open mic night -all whilst generating no new waste! The festival also ensures no single-use disposables are being used, staying true to the mission of building a greener Malaysia! The goal of this festival is to show Malaysians that we can live a sustainable lifestyle and to address the misconceptions of it being difficult, expensive and time-consuming. There will be vendors selling burgers, cakes, handmade crafts, refill products, among others, and participants are encouraged to bring their own reusable containers to purchase them. Our open mic night is open to any musicians, artists or performers, will include a light projection experience and have a special guest appearance by Zee Avi!
The festival could not happen without support from our incredible sponsors and supporters. Taylor’s University, our campaign partner says, “Through Taylor’s Duckie mission in bringing about change to society, we realised the need to move towards achieving a sustainable reality. We’re beyond thrilled that this festival will be our first big step in creating awareness together with Zero Waste Malaysia.”. The festival is a one day celebration on the 1st of October, from 2PM to 9PM at Taylor’s Lakeside Campus, also engaging the youth who are Malaysia’s future low waste champions. Entrance is free with registrations.

Mission 30: Zero Waste Challenge –
Sustainable living and building habits doesn’t happen overnight therefore , the festival paves the way for ZWM’s latest edition of the 30 Day Zero Waste Challenge happening throughout October 2022. Mission 30: Zero Waste Challenge will ride on the festival’s momentum and allow Malaysians to see what it’s like living with low waste for an entire month!
“We are extremely excited to finally have our 3rd Zero Waste Festival! We believe this gathering is the perfect chance for Malaysians to reset their mindsets after a long period of heavy and unavoidable waste-generation during the pandemic. The follow-up challenge will also give everyone a platform to then experience and practice living sustainably with plenty of support from our team” said ZWM Director, Khor Sue Yee.
This is ZWM’s second time running the challenge that aims to create lasting sustainable habits and we’re raising the stakes with more exciting challenges, better content and more interaction! Not to mention a more lucrative prize pot that adds up to a value of more than RM9,000! The challenge this year is based on a Mission 30 theme, calling participants ‘agents’ who are on a mission to battle climate change and protect our world. – aiming to incorporate gamification and excitement to the environmental challenge!
